October 22 Early Voting !!!!!Early voting has begun and will last till October 31st. The early voting centers for this year are located in three places. The regular places of the Annex, located at Scharbauer and "A" streets, and the Cogdell Learning Center on West Florida street are open. In conjunction to these polls have also been placed at the Imperial Shopping Center located at the corner of Midkiff and Wadley. Please remember that every vote counts and this is a very important time to make your voice heard. So please, get up there and exercise your rights, VOTE!!!!! October 09 Issues that concern you, the taxpayer!While going door to door during this campaign, I have been addressed with the issues that are of concern to you, the taxpaying citizens of Midland County. I have been asked what can be done about the fact that when you call your county commissioner your call is never answered and if a message is left ,why is there no return call? What is the process for getting a road dedicated for county maintenance? Why can't we get straight answers on any issues that we present to the county commissioner instead of our issue being passed onto another facility of the county to get yet another vague answer?
These issues affect you, and they affect me also! What concerns you, also concerns me. I myself have had to run into "dead ends" trying to get answers to these questions and have felt like giving up out of frustration, but I did not, no sireeee! I am still working on these questions and still attempting to get the answers to the questions that you have placed before me.
Written policy statements about these things is something that should be put into place and adhered to. A statement that can be easily understood and followed in order to get the results that will be acceptable to everyone.
Questions being asked is an avenue for a person to become educated about something that is of interest to them and any question left unanswered brings that avenue to a "dead end". I, for one, would like to help stop those "dead ends".

The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a forum between the local candidates. Monday October 6, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Advanced Technology Center on West Illinois. Come and have your questions answered and meet the candidates personally. See if you can stump us.
Elaine Roberts-Democratic Candidate for Midland County Commissiioner Precinct One September 06 Did You Know?!!!!!!!Did you know that the Midland County Horseshoe Complex is over $500,000.00 in debt?
That Midland County purchased the Heritage Building to the sum of over $3,000,000.00 and is indebted to spend over $15,000,000.00 in order to make this building habitable for future county offices?
That the current elected county officials just gave themselves yet another raise increasing his/her annual salary by fifty percent since the year 2001?
These debts are long term and will have to be paid by our children and grandchildren!!!!!!
Todays officials are using tomorrow's credit card to pay today's debts.
It's time for a change and it should happen now!!!
With your help we can make this change happen. A positive change! A change for the better!
Remember to cast your vote on November 4, 2008 and together we will make these changes come to fruition.
